NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory has captured an image of a strong solar flare emitted by the sun, the agency said.
The solar flare, peaking at 1:09 p.m. Tuesday Eastern Time, is classified as an X1.0 flare.
X-class denotes the most intense flares, while the number provides more information about its strength, according to NASA.
Solar flares are powerful bursts of energy.
Flares and solar eruptions can impact high-frequency radio communications, electric power grids, navigation signals, and pose risks to spacecraft and astronauts.
